How was the Idea for Donty Born?

During the past summer, I participated in a Web3 internship program jointly organized by the Hong Kong government and Cyberport. One of the questions posed during the program was:

How can Web3 technologies create funding and transparency models to support the missions of non-profit organizations?

This question sparked a deep dive into the potential of blockchain to revolutionize charity.

Blockchain has already proven its potential in this space, as highlighted by Vitalik Buterin, Ethereum’s co-founder, who frequently uses blockchain for charitable donations. A notable example is his Christmas gift of $400,000 in Ethereum to a baby hippo named Moo-Deng in Thailand. The transparency and speed of such donations showcase the advantages of blockchain in philanthropy.

Real-world examples highlight Web3's potential. Siqi Chen’s GoFundMe campaign raised 84% of $300,000 over several days, but a Web3 initiative using the $MIRA token raised $23.76 million within hours. Such cases showcase blockchain's ability to amplify charity efforts, offering transparency and scalability.

This inspired Donty, a decentralized application (dApp) that transforms non-profit fundraising by combining traditional methods with blockchain’s innovative capabilities, fostering trust and efficiency in charitable giving.
